Health Benefits

Medical Benefits

The District’s full-time employees can choose between Blue Cross of California PPO or HMO plans and Kaiser Permanente. The plan is administered by Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA). The health benefit becomes available after 30 days of employment on the first of the following month. The District pays the total cost including the employee’s dependents.

Vision Benefits

The District’s full-time employees are provided with Vision Service Plan (VSP) vision insurance. The plan is administered by ACWA. The vision benefit becomes available after 30 days of employment on the first of the following month. The District pays the total cost including the employee’s dependents.

Dental Benefits

The District’s full-time employees can choose between Delta Care (HMO) and Delta Dental (PPO) available after 30 days. The plan is administered by ACWA. The dental benefit becomes available after six months of employment on the first of the following month. The District pays the total cost including the employee’s dependents.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment

The District offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plan. The benefit becomes effective after 30 days of employment on the first of the following month. The District pays the total cost, including dependents. The plan coverage includes $175,000 (employees), $225,000 (middle managers) and $300,000 (directors).

Deferred Compensation

Description of Benefit

A Deferred Compensation Plan is available to those who wish to participate. If employees decide to voluntarily contribute, the District will also contribute to the plan. Employees can choose between two different plans.

Educational Reimbursement Program

Benefit Details

The District provides reimbursement for eligible and pre-approved coursework for regular, full-time employees for certain expenses for a pre-approved educational course(s) or undergraduate/graduate degree programs that will mutually benefit the District and the employee. “Certain expenses” may include registration fees, tuition, books, parking, and/or laboratory fees.

The employee is responsible for paying for the courses at the time of enrollment. Upon receiving approval by the Human Resources Department that the employee has completed the coursework with a “passing” grade of a C or better, the employee will be eligible to receive:

Between $2,500 and $5,000 per fiscal year.

Life Insurance & Disability

Life Insurance

The District offers a Life Insurance Plan offered through The Standard. The benefit becomes effective after 30 days of employment on the first of the following month.

The District pays the total cost, including dependents. The plan coverage includes $175,000 (employees), $225,000 (middle managers) and $300,000 (directors).

Long Term Disability

The District offers a Disability Plan offered through The Standard. The plan coverage includes 70% of $17,143 of monthly pre-disability earnings with a maximum of $12,000, whichever is less. The benefit becomes effective after 30 days of employment on the first of the following month. The District pays the total cost.

Longevity Pay

Description of Benefit

Full-time employees are eligible for longevity pay upon continuous length of service with the District. Eligible employees receive an annual lump sum payment subject to satisfactory performance and the approval of the General Manager in the following increments:

After 05 years: $150 After 10 years: $225

Retirement & Social Security

Public Employees’ Retirement System

The District participates in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (CALPERS). The District’s formula is 2% at 55. The District pays the total cost and you become vested in CalPERS after five (5) years of service. Effective January 1, 2013, under the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) new members will be provided the 2% at 62 retirement formula with an employee contribution of 6.25% of the annual salary.

Social Security Plan

The employee’s part of the Social Security plan will be that percentage payment as designated by law or contract.

Sick Leave & Bereavement

Sick Leave

The District employees accrue a total of 12 days per year.

Sick Leave Cash Out

The District will pay up to 40 hours of accrued sick leave per year under the following conditions:

A total of 160 hours must be maintained after reimbursement The request for reimbursement must be submitted in writing to the Human Resources Department The General Manager must approve all requests

 

The District allows five days of Bereavement Leave due to the death of persons in the immediate family.

Bereavement

Uniforms & Boots

Description of Benefit

The District provides all field employees with uniforms. The District also reimburses employees $200.00 for work boots twice a year with supervisor approval.

Vacation Pay & Holidays

Vacation Pay

Full-time employees are eligible for vacation pay.

Vacation pay is determined in the following increments:

After 1 year: 80 hours After 4 years: 120 hours After 9 years: 160 hours

 

Holidays

District employees receive 13 paid holidays per year plus two floater holidays

  • After 14 years: 200 hours
Worker's Compensation

Description of Benefit

All District employees are covered on the first day of employment for any work-related injury sustained in the course and scope of their job.
